A Conversation With Indicted Marine's Lawyer
(2008-09-23)
Cpl. Cesar Laurean
(whqr) - Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean was indicted earlier this year for the murder of fellow pregnant Marine Lance Corporal Maria Lauderbach. After her murder, Laurean fled to Mexico.

Less than two weeks ago, Mexico agreed to extradite Laurean to the US only if the courts would not impose the death penalty. Civilian courts have agreed to this condition, but the military has remained silent. Since the Marine Corps has not discharged Laurean, he could be tried in a military court and given the death penalty, if the civilian courts acquit him.

It's a complex situation that has Laurean's lawyer, Dick McNeil, a little concerned, because he's seen this scenario play out before.
