Sun's energy will add power to region's electric grid.
The power companies plan to build ten acres of solar panels near Highway 421.
The solar power initiative is in response to the state's energy law passed last year that requires utilities produce part of their power from renewable sources.
Progress energy says the solar panels will be up and running later this year.
