LED Bulbs Light Up UNCW
(2008-08-12)
(whqr) - UNC Wilmington says new light bulbs now on campus not only conserve energy but also enhance security.

The new white LED bulbs use a third of the electricity that the old yellow ones used, and the new bulbs last longer so fewer end up in the trash.

The new bulbs also have a better targeted light, increasing night visibility. Steve Pickard with the university says this is one of many sustainability movements on campus.

"This one is especially exciting because I do feel I'm on the front end of what's coming in the future. We as a university need to be on the cutting edge of the technology and the energy savings and the environmental impact."

The new bulbs are partly in response to a law requiring state buildings to cut energy consumption by 30% by 2015. © Copyright 2009, whqr
