WILMINGTON, NC (whqr) - Carolina Beach has a new mayor. Joel Macon beat Alan Gilbert by three votes, winning the seat held by Bill Clark.

Unofficial results show Macon with 506 votes, Gilbert with 503 and write-in candidate Ray Rothrock with 444 votes.

Wrightsville Beach

In Wrightsville Beach, Bill Blair and Lisa Weeks won the two Board of Aldermen seats. Blair received 424 votes and Weeks got 402 votes. Unofficial results show a nearly 30%voter turnout in Wrightsville Beach.

Brunswick County

In Brunswick County unofficial results show Chuck Thurlow beat out Mary Jean Rhodes in the Belville mayor's race.

In Leland Walter Futch held onto his mayor's seat, beating out Franky Thomas with 71% of the vote.

Political newcomer Sandy Spencer will be the new mayor of Southport.

And on Oak Island, mayor Johnnie Vereen narrowly managed to keep his position. Unofficial results show Vereen beating challenger Amanda Hall by 85 votes. © Copyright 2010, whqr
