Two Upper Peninsula universities are helping veterans pay for the costs of getting a degree. The GI Bill pays up to the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition and fees, but vets often encounter expenses beyond that amount. The Yellow Ribbon program helps fund those expenses. Participating universities can contribute up to 50 percent of the extra costs and the Veterans Administration will match the rest for eligible students.Currently, 35 Michigan schools take part in the program, including Finlandia University and Lake Superior State University.
