Each year on the first Sunday in March, dozens of participating attractions open their doors to New Hanover County residents free of charge. In cooperation with the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau, 27 New Hanover County attractions will welcome and honor local citizens on Sunday, March 3rd. Providing free admission and special events is a way for the attractions to familiarize residents with area tourism assets and to thank them for their support. In addition to attractions, special Riverfront activities will take place from 12noon until 3pm. Residents and visitors can stop by the Riverfront Visitor Information Booth to pick up a list of participating attractions and meet team and event mascots who will sign autographs and pose for photo opportunities on the Riverwalk (weather-permitting) at the foot of Water & Market streets.

Hours for individual attractions vary and restrictions may apply. While most attractions and tours will offer free admission to all visitors, some are free only for New Hanover County residents. Some may also require advance reservations or tickets. Citizens interested in taking advantage of this one-day only free event are encouraged to bring proper identification (driver’s license, etc.) that proves residency within New Hanover County. Non-county residents are advised to carefully check the participants’ list and to call individual attractions and tours with questions about restrictions.
