Detroit Mayor Back on Tether
(2008-08-14)
(wgvu) - DETROIT (AP) - A judge has ordered Detroit Mayor Kwame
Kilpatrick to again wear an electronic tether, hours after another
judge said he could take it off.
Kilpatrick was expected to wear the monitor to comply with
conditions of his bond in an assault case. Judge Ronald Giles of
36th District Court signed the order after a brief hearing
Thursday.
A spokesman for the Michigan attorney general's office, Rusty
Hills, says there's no objection from the mayor's legal team.
Earlier Thursday, in a separate perjury case, a Wayne County
judge told Kilpatrick he could get rid of the tether and attend the
Democratic National Convention. County prosecutors plan to appeal.
Kilpatrick faces 10 felony charges in two criminal cases.
