Caledonia Man Dies from Construction Accident
(2008-08-13)
(wgvu) - DOUGLAS, Mich. (AP) - A 41-year-old construction worker has died
more than two weeks after falling and hitting his head while
helping to build an addition to Douglas Elementary School.
Thomas Gehl of Caledonia died Wednesday morning at Spectrum
Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Police say he was working on a metal beam on July 28 when it
gave way. He fell 14 feet to the ground and hit his head on the
beam, which also fell.
The Grand Rapids Press reports that Gehl was a 12-year employee
of FCC Construction in Kent County's Caledonia Township.
WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids says he also was a volunteer firefighter
in Caledonia.
