Ballot Issues
(2008-08-12)
(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan election officials are prepared
to summarize for voters three potential proposals on the November
ballot after hearing from supporters and opponents.
Among the measures debated Tuesday is a sweeping constitutional
amendment to reshape state government by cutting the number of
lawmakers and judges, reducing their pay and changing how
legislative seats are drawn.
Critics says the proposal is too big to be explained in 100
words. But supporters including the Michigan Democratic Party say
there's no requirement that every detail of a ballot measure be
included in a summary read by voters.
Election officials also are working to summarize measures to
lift state restrictions on stem cell research and allow the use of
marijuana for medical purposes.
