Ash Borer in U.P.
in Michigan.
The state's Department of Agriculture said Thursday that the
pest has been found in the western part of the state's Upper
Peninsula.
It previously had been reported in an eastern Upper Peninsula
county and in parts of the Lower Peninsula.
The latest confirmation of the bug that destroys ash trees comes
from Houghton County.
The emerald ash borer is a beetle native to Asia detected in
southeast Michigan in 2002. The pest is blamed for the death or
damage of millions of ash trees in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana,
Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Missouri, Virginia, Wisconsin and
Ontario, Canada.
