Granholm-Surgery-Records
(2008-08-07)
(wgvu) - A Lansing hospital says it fired or
disciplined employees for trying to obtain computerized medical
information about Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
Sparrow Hospital spokesman John Berg tells the Detroit Free
Press the breach of Granholm's medical records was discovered
during a routine audit. He says an unspecified number of employees
were disciplined but wouldn't give details.
The 49-year-old Democratic governor underwent emergency surgery
April 29 to remove an obstruction in her small intestine.
Berg says federal privacy laws forbid release of information
about the incident.
Local nurses union President Jeff Breslin says he can't divulge
information about nurses who might have been disciplined.
