Bears On the Move in Michigan
(2008-08-06)
(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan wildlife officials are getting
public feedback on how to manage the state's black bear population.
Most of the state's bear population is in the Upper Peninsula.
But sightings in the southern part of the Lower Peninsula are
becoming more common.
Cities with bear incidents in recent years include Battle Creek
and Lansing.
The state Department of Natural Resources hopes to have a draft
bear management plan by winter 2009.
Other Midwestern states also are evaluating their black bear
populations.
