Voter Turnout
primary election polls, most Michigan voters stayed away.
The Michigan Department of State had predicted yesterday's
primary would draw fewer than one in five registered voters -- or
1.4 million out of 7.2 million.
Department spokeswoman Kelly Chesney says those projections
appeared to be holding firm yesterday. Final turnout figures aren't
available yet.
The 2006 primary had a turnout of 18 percent, while the turnout
in 2004 was 20 percent.
