Questions About Detroit Mayor's Travels
(2008-07-30)
(wgvu) - DETROIT (AP) - Prosecutors will ask a judge if Mayor Kwame
Kilpatrick gave notification prior to visiting Canada to push the
sale of the city's half of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.
Kilpatrick faces perjury and other charges before 36th District
Judge Ronald Giles and is required to alert the court of all travel
plans.
Prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller said Wednesday that the
issue will be addressed at an Aug. 7 hearing.
Kilpatrick spokesman Marcus Reese says the mayor met last
Wednesday with Windsor officials about the tunnel deal which would
erase a $65 million budget deficit and avert layoffs of city
employees.
Kilpatrick and his ex-top aide face perjury and other charges
before Giles who lashed out at the mayor in May for short notice
given before a trip to Texas.
