SPECTRUM HELIPAD
(2008-07-29)
(wgvu) - SPECTRUM HEALTH IS RE-LOCATING ITS AERO MED HELOCOPTER LANDING SITE IN THE WAKE OF THE MAY 29th ROOFTOOP ACCIDENT.

SPECTRUM'S BRUCE ROSSMAN SAYS THE NEW SITE WILL BE IN THE 500 BLOCK OF PLYMOUTH NE, AN INDUSTRIAL AREA BETWEEN MICHIGAN STREET AND I-96.

INCOMING PATIENTS WILL BE TRANSFERRED FROM THE HELOCOPTER TO AMBULANCE, THEN TRANSFERRED TO SPECTRUM BUTTERWORTH EMERGENCY. SINCE THE ACCIDENT, AERO MED HAS BEEN LANDING AT THE AIRPORT AND TRANSPORTING BY AMBULANCE.

THE NEW SITE ON PLYMOUTH WILL BE ACTIVATED SOMETIME AFTER AUGUST FIRST. ROSSMAN SAYS THE INTERMEDIARY SITE IS CONSIDERED TEMPORARY, BECAUSE BUTTERWORTH REMAINS COMMITTED TO REOPENING THE ROOFTOP HELIPAD AFTER IMPROVEMENTS AND UPGRADES. NO WORD YET ON WHEN THAT MIGHT BE.

SPECRUM OFFICIALS RELEASED DETAILS OF THE CHANGE TO AREA RESIDENTS DURING A COMMUNITY MEETING MONDAY EVENING.
