Detroit Mayor's Misconduct Baffles Sheriff
(2008-07-28)
(wgvu) - DETROIT (AP) - Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans says he is
"baffled" that the simple serving of a subpoena escalated into
possible assault charges against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
Evans says he is not sure why Kilpatrick became aggressive when
a sheriff's deputy and a peace officer tried to serve a subpoena
last Thursday on a friend of the mayor at the Detroit home of
Kilpatrick's sister.
He does credit investigator Brian White with using good judgment
by leaving the area and not trying to arrest Kilpatrick.
White testified Friday before a 36th District Court judge that
Kilpatrick, yelling obscenities, shoved him on the porch.
Kilpatrick was ordered to post $7,500 for violating bond
provisions in his criminal case and to submit to drug testing.
