Suit Filled to Block Mich. Constitutional Rewrite
the plaintiffs suing to keep a sweeping constitutional amendment
from going on Michigan's November ballot.
The lawsuit filed Thursday says wholesale changes to the state
constitution aren't allowed in a single ballot issue and instead
should be considered at a constitutional convention.
A group backed by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce filed the
suit with the state Court of Appeals. Other plaintiffs joining the
suit are two Republican senators, a Democratic House member, a
probate judge and a county clerk.
The ballot measure is backed by Democrats and some unions.
Among other changes, it would remove some Republicans from the
state's top courts before the next round of legislative
redistricting.
