American Axle-Layoffs DETROIT (AP) (wgvu) - More than 2,000 U.S. hourly workers are expected
to take buyout offers from auto supplier American Axle and
Manufacturing Holdings.
A United Auto Workers official says between 2,000 and 2,200
workers will likely accept the offers. That's well over half of
American Axle's 3,650 U.S. hourly workers.
Workers had to decide by last Friday whether to take a buyout.
But American Axle spokeswoman Renee Rogers says the numbers won't
be final until tomorrow, which is the last day workers can decide
to opt out of the deals.
The Detroit-based company is expected to make an official
announcement on the buyouts when it releases its second-quarter
earnings tomorrow.
