(wgvu) - A link on a Web site shows the Michigan
Democratic Party and some unions are behind a ballot proposal that
would make sweeping changes to state government.
No one publicly has acknowledged writing or financing the
But the Mackinac Center for Public Policy says it believes the
PowerPoint presentation links Democrats and unions to the "Reform
Michigan Government Now" referendum. The Midland-based think tank
says it found the presentation on the United Auto Workers Region
1-C Web site.
The proposal would cut pay for legislators, judges, the governor
and other elected officials ... change the way legislative
districts are drawn ... and cap the number of state departments.
State officials haven't ruled yet whether the proposal can
appear on the November ballot.
