(wgvu) - About 169,000 homes and businesses remain without
power today after strong thunderstorms rolled through Michigan's
Lower Peninsula.
About 144,000 are CMS Energy customers. Power may not be
restored to some of them in rural or hard-hit areas until Saturday
or Sunday.
Another 25,000 DTE Energy customers are without power.
Electricity isn't expected to be fully restored to all of them
until tomorrow.
Water on Detroit-area freeways led to scattered accidents and
freeway closings that snarled this morning's commute.
Grand Rapids police were dispatched to help motorists whose cars
had stalled on flooded city streets, then began to float.
A fallen tree blocked part of eastbound Interstate 94 near
Kalamazoo for a few hours last night.
