The military says Sergeant 1st Class Matthew Hilton of Livonia
died Thursday after his convoy encountered improvised explosive
devices, small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.
The 37-year-old Hilton's death was reported Friday by the
Lathrup Village police chief. Hilton joined the suburban Detroit
department in 2001.
Hilton was assigned to the 425th Infantry Regiment of the
Michigan Army National Guard at Selfridge Air National Guard base
near Mount Clemens.
