(wgvu) - Local officials are moving quickly to try to
soften the blow from a General Motors Corp. plant closing in the
Dayton, Ohio, area.
GM announced about three weeks ago that it would close its
factory in suburban Moraine that makes sport utility vehicles,
because the gas guzzlers have fallen out of favor with consumers.
A task force was scheduled to hold its first meeting Wednesday
on how the region will respond to the loss. Production at the plant
is to end by 2010.
The 40-member task force co-chaired by Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher
and Montgomery County Commission President Judy Dodge will explore
how the area will hold on to jobs, retrain its work force and find
a new use for the GM plant site.
