1979 Murder Charge
(2008-06-20)
(wgvu) - Two men have been charged with killing
a supermarket employee during an early morning robbery almost three
decades ago.
Fifty-four-year-old Darrell Lee Kastel of Deerfield and
50-year-old William Estel Hess, who is currently serving a prison
sentence in Jackson, have been charged with first-degree
premeditated murder and felony murder.
Police say the men are accused of fatally shooting 62-year-old
Julius Schnoll on Jan. 29, 1979, while robbing a Great Scott
supermarket in Farmington.
Police say the case went cold until 2006, when it was reviewed
and new information was obtained.
Neither defendant has an attorney on record with the 47th
District Court.
Hess and Kastel will have a pre-exam conference June 23.
