ANTLERLESS DEER
(2008-06-10)
(wgvu) - LICENSES TO HUNT ANTLERLESS DEER WILL BE
AVAILABLE IN MOST OF MICHIGAN THIS FALL. BUT THE NUMBER IS BEING
REDUCED IN THE UPPER PENINSULA.
THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES SAYS ANTLERLESS LICENSES
WILL BE ISSUED FOR 85 OF THE STATE'S 98 DEER MANAGEMENT UNITS.
AMONG THE ELIGIBLE COUNTIES ARE LAKE AND WEXFORD, WHERE NO
ANTLERLESS LICENSES HAVE BEEN OFFERED FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS.
THEY'LL BE FOR USE ONLY ON PRIVATE LAND.
ANTLERLESS LICENSES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PARTS OF THE UPPER
PENINSULA, BUT NOT OTHERS. THE DNR SAYS THE CUTBACK IS BECAUSE OF
SEVERE WEATHER LAST WINTER.
THE STATE WILL SET ANTLERLESS QUOTAS NEXT MONTH.
