Michigan GOP activist and ERA advocate, dies at 95
politics who devoted herself to passing the Equal Rights Amendment
has died. Elly Peterson was 95.
Longtime friend Joyce Braithwaite-Brickley says Peterson died
Monday in Grand Junction, Colo.
A native of Illinois, Peterson moved to Charlotte, Mich., after
spending 22 months with the American Red Cross in England, France
and Germany during World War II.
She and Liz Carpenter of Texas served as national co-chairwomen
of ERAmerica during the fight to get the Equal Rights Amendment
passed. Peterson also strongly supported abortion rights.
She was an inductee to the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame.
Peterson was preceded in death by her husband, William Peterson.
There will be no public service.
