SMOKING BAN
(2008-05-27)
(wgvu) - A VOTE COULD COME THIS WEEK IN THE STATE
HOUSE COULD VOTE SOON ON WHETHER TO ALLOW EXCEPTIONS TO A PROPOSED
STATEWIDE BAN ON SMOKING AT WORK.
IT'S BEEN MORE THAN TWO WEEKS SINCE THE REPUBLICAN-LED SENATE
VOTED TO PROHIBIT SMOKING INSIDE ALL BUSINESSES, INCLUDING BARS AND
RESTAURANTS.
BUT THE DEMOCRATIC-CONTROLLED HOUSE HAS YET TO SEND THE
LEGISLATION TO GOVERNOR GRANHOLM, WHO SUPPORTS IT.
HOUSE SPEAKER ANDY DILLON SAYS HE SYMPATHIZES WITH DETROIT
CASINO AND CIGAR BAR OPERATORS WHO ARGUE THAT BANNING SMOKING IN
THEIR FACILITIES WOULD HURT BUSINESS.
