American Axle and the H2
(2008-05-23)
(wgvu) - AM General plans to resume production at
its civilian Hummer H2 plant in Mishawaka, Ind., on June 2 now that
a strike at American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc. has been
settled.
AM General spokesman Craig Mac Nab said Friday a small number of
workers will be called back to work next week to begin preparing
the plant for work to resume. The rest of the nearly 400 workers
will return the following Monday.
The workers were laid off March 4 because of parts shortages
caused by the strike. American Axle said Friday it expects
production to resume next week after workers overwhelmingly
approved a new contract.
AM General builds the H2 for General Motors Corp. Last year,
about 13,000 H2s were built at the factory.
