Blackwater Founder Speaks
Prince says the people trained by his security company aren't
mercenaries or thugs as some critics have claimed but are instead
well-trained professionals, often with strong military backgrounds.
Prince spoke Monday before about 750 people at a luncheon hosted
by The Economic Club of Grand Rapids.
The former Navy SEAL grew up in Holland, about 30 miles
southwest of Grand Rapids.
North Carolina-based Blackwater has about 1,000 personnel
working in Iraq.
They provide security for diplomats in Baghdad, where the
sprawling U.S. Embassy is headquartered. They act as bodyguards and
armed drivers, escorting government officials when they go outside
the fortified Green Zone.
