MEIJER-ATTORNEY GENERAL
(2008-05-19)
(wgvu) - MICHIGAN ATTORNEY GENERAL MIKE COX
HAS ACCEPTED $2,500 FROM MEIJER'S POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE AMID A
SECRETARY OF STATE'S INVESTIGATION INTO THE RETAIL CHAIN'S CAMPAIGN
LAW VIOLATIONS.
COX SPOKESMAN RUSTY HILLS SAYS THERE'S NO CONFLICT BECAUSE COX'S
OFFICE WASN'T INVOLVED IN SECRETARY OF STATE TERRI LYNN LAND'S
INVESTIGATION.
LAND ANNOUNCED MORE THAN $190,000 IN FINES FOR THE VIOLATIONS IN
MEIJER'S EFFORT TO BUILD A SUPERSTORE IN GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY'S
ACME TOWNSHIP.
LAND SAID COX'S OFFICE COULD LOOK INTO WHETHER MEIJER VIOLATED
LAWS ASIDE FROM THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE ACT, BUT HILLS SAYS THE COUNTY
PROSECUTOR ALREADY WAS DOING THAT.
