Rare Swallow in Michigan
Marquette area, hoping for a glimpse of a violet green swallow.
The swallow was spotted last weekend along Marquette's Lower
Harbor by Skye Haas, a Laughing Whitefish Audubon Society board
member.
She tells WLUC-TV it's the first time the species has made a
documented appearance in Michigan.
Violet-green swallows normally inhabit the West Coast and Rocky
Mountain states and are almost never seen east of the Mississippi.
This bird might have been blown off course or followed a flock
of tree swallows migrating from Mexico.
The Mining Journal reports the sighting has attracted birders
from as far away as Houghton, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor and
Detroit.
