Cervical Cancer Vaccine
(2008-05-01)
(wgvu) - Schools that provide information about
vaccinations to families soon could include details about a vaccine
to fight against a cause of cervical cancer.
The state Legislature has sent a bill to Governor Jennifer
Granholm that would allow schools to distribute information about
HPV and the immunization against it to families of students in
certain grade levels.
The state Senate overwhelmingly approved the bill this week. The
measure passed the House earlier this year.
Lawmakers appear to have backed off plans to make the
immunizations mandatory for sixth grade girls. That measure fizzled
in the Legislature a couple of years ago.
