State Dept. Official Meets with Dalai Lama
says her meeting in Ann Arbor with the Dalai Lama offers a timely
opportunity to discuss recent conflicts in Tibet.
Undersecretary of State Paula Dobriansky and the exiled Tibetan
spiritual leader spoke briefly to reporters Monday morning before
privately meeting to talk about China's crackdown on anti-Beijing
protests in Tibet.
The Dalai Lama expressed his appreciation for the help of the
U.S. government.
The State Department has said Dobriansky and the Dalai Lama have
met more than 10 times since 2001. Dobriansky serves as special
envoy for Tibet.
The Dalai Lama wrapped up a weekend of lectures at the
University of Michigan.
