Granholm Promotes Renewable Energy
(2008-04-21)
(wgvu) - PIGEON, Mich. (AP) - Governor Jennifer Granholm is in Michigan's
Thumb region to highlight the state's potential as a renewable
energy hub.
The governor toured the state's first commercial scale wind farm
on Monday.
The Harvest Wind Farm near Pigeon has 32 turbines and can make
enough electricity to power more than 15,000 homes.
The project was developed by John Deere Wind Energy. Wolverine
Power Cooperative in Cadillac is buying the power for 20 years.
Granholm says the purpose of her trip is to show people what
kind of future Michigan can have. She also toured a local
elementary school that generates its own power with windmills on
its property.
Granholm wants Michigan to produce and use more green power.
