Bus Wreck Victim-First Pitch
(2008-04-18)
(wgvu) - BLUFFTON, Ohio (AP) - He didn't throw a perfect strike, but it
didn't matter to everyone who cheered at Bluffton University where
Tim Berta threw out the first pitch before Friday afternoon's game.
Berta is a former Bluffton baseball player who was critically
injured in the team's bus crash a year ago that killed five
players, the bus driver and his wife. He has spent the last year
learning to talk and walk again.
Berta kept his promise and walked out on the field by himself,
stopping between home plate and the pitcher's mound. Before
throwing the pitch, he took off his cap and looked to the outfield
fence where there are five banners with the names of those killed
in the crash.
