Detroit Mayor on Obama
controversial former pastor of Democratic presidential candidate
Barack Obama's church should be judged by his life's work.
Kilpatrick made the comment today during a panel discussion of
regional leaders in Birmingham.
Kilpatrick says he has heard the Reverend Jeremiah Wright speak
many times. He calls the retired pastor of Chicago's Trinity United
Church of Christ a great orator.
Some of Wright's sermons contained comments denouncing the
United States as racist and genocidal.
Kilpatrick has his own problems. He faces charges of perjury,
misconduct and obstruction of justice stemming from a
text-messaging sex scandal.
