IMMIGRATION-H2B VISAS
(2008-04-17)
(wgvu) - MICHIGAN CONGRESSMAN BART STUPAK HAS PLEADED
FOR MORE VISAS FOR SEASONAL WORKERS NEEDED BY SEAFOOD PROCESSORS,
RESORTS AND OTHERS IN THEIR DISTRICTS.
THE MENOMINEE (MICHIGAN) DEMOCRAT AND COLLEAGUES TIM BISHOP OF
NEW YORK AND WAYNE GILCHREST OF MARYLAND RAISED CONCERNS BEFORE THE
HOUSE JUDICIARY IMMIGRATION SUBCOMMITTEE.
THEY SAY SOME BUSINESSES COULD CLOSE OR LOSE MONEY THIS SPRING
AND SUMMER BECAUSE THERE AREN'T ENOUGH H-2B VISAS FOR TEMPORARY
NONAGRICULTURAL WORKERS.
ATTEMPTS TO INCREASE H2B VISAS ARE TRAPPED IN THE DEBATE OVER
IMMIGRATION REFORM.
