TOURISM PROMOTION
(2008-04-17)
(wgvu) - MICHIGAN HOPES TO RAMP UP ITS TOURISM INDUSTRY THIS YEAR WITH SOME CHANGES TO STATE LAW. MEASURES ON THEIR WAY TO THE GOVERNOR COULD PROVIDE UP TO 60 MILLION DOLLARS FOR
TOURISM AND BUSINESS MARKETING OVER TWO YEARS.
MONEY WOULD COME FROM REFINANCING SOME OF THE TOBACCO BONDS USED
TO CREATE THE STATE'S 21ST CENTURY JOBS FUND.
MICHIGAN TOURISM WAS FLAT LAST YEAR, AND THE TRAVEL AND TOURISM INSTITUTE AD MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY IS PREDICTING THE INDUSTRY WILL SEE A TWO PER CENT FALL OFF THIS YEAR.
