(wgvu) - GOVERNOR GRANHOLM SAYS SHE WANTS HIGH-TECH
COMPANIES TO COMPETE FOR 30 MILLION DOLLARS IN STATE LOANS DESIGNED
TO DIVERSIFY THE ECONOMY AND CREATE JOBS.
IT'S THE SECOND PHASE OF THE 21ST CENTURY JOBS FUND, A 2
BILLION-DOLLAR, TWO-DECADE INITIATIVE.
THE FIRST ROUND OF FUNDING RESULTED IN 78 BUSINESSES AND
UNIVERSITIES GETTING 126 MILLION DOLLARS IN STATE MONEY FOR
RESEARCH AND CREATING AN ESTIMATED 500 JOBS.
THE STATE WILL FOCUS ON FOR-PROFIT COMPANIES THIS TIME AROUND,
WITH AN EMPHASIS ON LIFE SCIENCES, ALTERNATIVE ENERGY, ADVANCED
MANUFACTURING AND HOMELAND SECURITY.
