Fieger Indicted
(2008-04-09)
(wgvu) - DETROIT (AP) - High-profile lawyer Geoffrey Fieger has asked a
federal judge to move his upcoming criminal trial out of Detroit.
Fieger and law partner Ven Johnson are accused of submitting
$127,000 in illegal contributions to the 2004 presidential campaign
of Democrat John Edwards.
Fieger also has been charged with obstructing justice.
The two men have pleaded not guilty.
The Detroit News reports that Fieger's attorney, Gerry Spence,
told U.S. District Judge Paul Borman on Wednesday that "scores"
of potential jurors dislike Fieger and his past representation of
suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian.
Borman calls the request premature. The Detroit Free Press says
he'll go ahead with trying to seat a 16-member jury in Detroit
beginning Monday.
