(wgvu) - A FORMER OGEMAW COUNTY PROSECUTOR HAS BEEN
SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR ABUSING HIS OFFICE TO
ILLEGALLY PURCHASE MACHINE GUNS AND SILENCERS.
FREDERICK MACKINNON IS THE LAST OF THREE DEFENDANTS FROM THE
NORTHEAST PART OF MICHIGAN'S LOWER PENINSULA TO BE SENTENCED IN
DETROIT FEDERAL COURT.
MACKINNON HAD BEEN CONVICTED OF MORE THAN TWO DOZEN COUNTS.
AUTHORITIES SAY THE 54-YEAR-OLD USED HIS POSITION AND OFFICIAL
LETTERHEAD TO OBTAIN SEVEN MACHINE GUNS AND NINE SILENCERS FOR HIS
OWN PERSONAL USE.
THE WEAPONS ARE HEAVILY RESTRICTED UNDER FEDERAL LAW.
