U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE RICHARD ENSLEN IN KALAMAZOO HAS ORDERED THE
ASSOCIATION TO PAY 4.4 MILLION DOLLARS IN ATTORNEYS' FEES.
MOST OF IT IS TO GO TO A VIRGINIA LAWYER FOR A GROUP OF GRAND
RAPIDS-AREA MOTHERS WHO SUED THE MHSAA NEARLY 10 YEARS AGO.
ENSLEN ALSO AWARDED MORE THAN 5 PERCENT ANNUAL INTEREST ON THE
JUDGMENT FROM THE DATE THE SUIT WAS FILED IN JUNE 1998, SWELLING
THE TOTAL PAYOUT TO 7.4 MILLION DOLLARS.
