JAPAN-TOYOTA-PRIUS
(2008-04-02)
(wgvu) - TOYOTA IS DENYING IT RECEIVED FUNDING FROM THE
JAPANESE GOVERNMENT TO DEVELOP ITS POPULAR PRIUS GAS-ELECTRIC
HYBRID CAR.
A BUSINESS WEEK REPORT QUOTES CHRYSLER PRESIDENT JIM PRESS, A
FORMER BOARD MEMBER AT TOYOTA, AS SAYING (-QUOTE-) "THE JAPANESE
GOVERNMENT PAID FOR 100 PERCENT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BATTERY
AND HYBRID SYSTEM THAT WENT INTO THE TOYOTA PRIUS."
PRESS WORKED FOR 37 YEARS AT TOYOTA, INCLUDING THE PERIOD OF
DEVELOPMENT OF THE PRIUS, WHICH WENT ON SALE 10 YEARS AGO. HE LEFT
TOYOTA FOR CHRYSLER LAST SEPTEMBER.
TOYOTA SAYS THE BUSINESS WEEK REPORT IS UNTRUE.
