Deer Rescued
(2008-03-31)
(wgvu) - NORTON SHORES, Mich. (AP) - A deer that became stranded on some
ice in Mona Lake got some help from Muskegon-area firefighters.
Norton Shores Deputy Fire Chief Bob Gagnon says a citizen called
Sunday afternoon to report seeing 14 deer stranded on the lake's
ice.
By the time firefighters arrived, only one deer remained. The
animal was clinging to some ice about 300 yards offshore and trying
to hoist itself out of the frigid water.
The North Muskegon Fire Department then came by with its
hovercraft. Firefighters used it to break a path in the ice and
allow the deer to swim to shore.
Gagnon tells The Muskegon Chronicle the animal then ran into
some nearby woods.
