STRIKE AGAINST AMERICAN AXLE AND MANUFACTURING ARE SPREADING.
GENERAL MOTORS ALREADY HAS FULLY OR PARTIALLY SHUT DOWN 28
PLANTS IN THE U.S. AND CANADA DUE TO SHORTAGES OF AMERICAN
AXLE-MADE PARTS.
GM SAYS IT WILL BE FORCED TO IDLE ITS DETROIT-HAMTRAMCK ASSEMBLY
PLANT LATER TODAY. THE PLANT MAKES THE BUICK LUCERNE AND CADILLAC
DTS SEDANS.
AND A UAW OFFICIAL SAYS GM ASSEMBLY AND STAMPING PLANTS IN
LORDSTOWN, OHIO, ARE EXPECTED TO SHUT DOWN APRIL 4TH BECAUSE
THEY'RE RUNNING OUT OF SMALL BRAKE PARTS. THE COMPLEX MAKES THE
CHEVROLET COBALT AND PONTIAC G5 SMALL CARS.
