UNITED AUTO WORKERS UNION IS TO BLAME FOR A BREAK IN TALKS TO END A
STRIKE RESPONSIBLE FOR IDLING DOZENS OF GENERAL MOTORS PLANTS.
THE UAW SAYS AMERICAN AXLE HAS BEEN UNWILLING TO BUDGE IN THE
TALKS, ANYWAY.
UNION PRESIDENT RON GETTELFINGER SAYS THERE'S NO MOVEMENT TOWARD
SETTLING THE TWO-WEEK STRIKE BY 3,600 UAW MEMBERS AT AMERICAN AXLE.
AMERICAN AXLE IS SEEKING CONCESSIONS LIKE THOSE THE UAW GAVE TO
THE DETROIT THREE AND PARTS MAKERS DELPHI AND DANA.
THE COMPANY SAYS DISCUSSIONS RESUME TOMORROW.
THE STRIKE HAS AFFECTED 28 GM PLANTS, IDLING ABOUT 37,000 HOURLY
WORKERS.
