ADOPTION DOCUMENTS
(2008-03-11)
(wgvu) - SOME ADOPTED CHILDREN CLOSED OFF TO
RECORDS OF THEIR ADOPTION COULD GET MORE DOCUMENTATION UNDER TERMS
OF A BILL PENDING IN THE STATE HOUSE.
THE BILL WOULD GIVE ADOPTEES OPTIONS TO FIND OUT THEIR
BIOLOGICAL FAMILY'S MEDICAL HISTORY.
IT ALSO COULD PROVIDE ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES FOR SOME WHO
NOW CAN'T GET THEM WITHOUT A COURT ORDER.
THE BILL IS BEING REVISED TO TRY AND EASE CONCERNS OF OPPONENTS
WORRIED ABOUT PRIVACY RIGHTS OF BIOLOGICAL PARENTS.
THE BILL COULD COME UP FOR A VOTE AS EARLY AS THIS WEEK.
