Detroit City Council Post Pones No Contest Vote on Mayor
a vote on a resolution that asks Kwame Kilpatrick to step down as
mayor.
Several council members said today they required more
information before going forward with a vote. The issue will be
taken up again on March 18th.
The resolution is more of a "no-confidence" vote and cannot
force Kilpatrick to resign.
Kilpatrick repeatedly has said he will not step down.
Some on the council accuse Kilpatrick of hiding the truth behind
a settlement agreement in an 8.4-million-dollar whistle-blowers'
lawsuit.
A prosecutor is investigating whether Kilpatrick and former
Chief of Staff Christine Beatty lied under oath during the
whistle-blowers' trial.
