Film Incentatives
(2008-03-04)
(wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Moviemakers are urging state lawmakers to
back legislation designed to make Michigan the country's most
attractive state in which to film.
Actor Jeff Daniels is among those testifying this afternoon
before a joint House-Senate hearing.
Newly introduced bills would give studios a 40 percent rebate on
their production costs - the highest in the United States.
Decisions on where to shoot movies are often about the bottom
line. Hollywood increasingly wants to know what incentives it will
get in return for filming in a state.
Legislators hope their bipartisan efforts will leapfrog Michigan
ahead of top moviemaking states such as Louisiana, New Mexico and
Connecticut.
