LEAST FIVE PLANTS BECAUSE OF A STRIKE AT AUTO PARTS SUPPLIER
AMERICAN AXLE.
GM SAYS IT'S TEMPORARILY CLOSING A FACTORY IN MORAINE, OHIO, AS
THE STRIKE CONTINUES TO SPREAD DEEPER INTO GM'S OPERATIONS.
A PLANT IN MISHAWAKA, INDIANA, THAT EMPLOYS ABOUT 390 HOURLY
WORKERS ASSEMBLING HUMMERS FOR GM ALSO IS CLOSING.
GM EARLIER CLOSED FOUR OTHER PLANTS, AND THE LATEST MOVES MEAN
MORE THAN 13,000 GM HOURLY WORKERS ARE OFF THE JOB.
ABOUT 3,600 UNITED AUTO WORKERS UNION MEMBERS AT FIVE AMERICAN
AXLE PLANTS WENT ON STRIKE LAST WEEK IN A CONTRACT DISPUTE.
