Great Lakes Report Delayed
a federal agency is withholding a report that describes potential
health risks near 26 polluted areas of the Great Lakes region.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was
scheduled to release the report last summer but delayed it. A
spokesman said earlier this month the report has problems that are
being fixed.
Representatives John Dingell and Bart Stupak of Michigan said
today they will investigate the CDC's handling of the matter.
Dingell is chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee,
while Stupak chairs its investigations subcommittee.
A draft of the report published earlier this month said many of
the counties where the polluted areas are located have abnormally
high rates of cancer and other health problems.
